Welcome to Hand Me Down Dobes!

Thank you for considering adopting from Hand Me Down Dobes. One of the oldest and largest Doberman rescues in Ohio, we also serve parts of Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. We have a very high adoption success rate, placing well over 1,000 Dobes into loving, forever homes. HMDD is proudly affiliated with the Doberman Pinscher Club of America and abides by their code of ethics.

The Doberman is intelligent and eager to please, making a loyal and devoted pet. When young, most are energetic and playful needing consistent exercise and attention. If you have never had a Doberman, please take some time to understand the breed.

If you are not ready to adopt but want to help, please consider fostering. HMDD rescues homeless and unwanted Dobes and places them into caring foster homes. This allows the dog to regain it's health, trust and confidence after the stressful experience of being abandoned. The more foster homes HMDD has, the more Dobes we can save!

A Beloved Dobergirl. . . Remembering Charley

Charley, the dobergirl from Hand Me Down Dobes

Charley-girl came into rescue in September at ten years of age, a casualty from an out-of-state move by the family that had owned her since she was a pup. Quiet, polite, and sweet as can be, Charley was placed in the caring foster home of the Bamer-Flynn family. Losing the people she'd always known was not easy for Charley, but her new foster family embraced her as one of their own, and she settled in nicely.

Recently Charley seemed unsteady on her back legs, but was still happy as ever. Sadly, she made a sudden turn for the worse, unable to bear weight on a front leg and obviously in pain. The vet confirmed our biggest fear, that cancer was the cause of the discomfort and pain, and with deep sadness we knew it was time to let her go.

Thank you to Gwenn and Sue for pampering and adoring this dobergirl, making her a beloved member of their family and being there for her until the end. Charley left her paw print on many hearts with her sweet demeanor and loving gaze from those big brown eyes. We know that this angel girl is now walking on the clouds, fancy free and no longer in pain.

Sapphire Needs Your Help!

Sapphire, the dog under care at Hand Me Down Dobes

Sapphire just came in to rescue from an Ohio animal shelter. At only three years old, this pretty blue dobergirl is still a youngster, yet has already had several litters of puppies. As if that hasn't been enough for sweet Sapphire to endure, she is also heartworm positive and will need to undergo lengthy treatment.

We would greatly appreciate sponsors for Sapphire to help with expenses while she receives the care she deserves. Thank you!

Hand Me Down Dobes, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization staffed by a dedicated group of volunteers committed to saving homeless Dobermans and placing them into suitable, loving homes. Many have been abandoned or abused, and need a tremendous amount of care and rehabilitation. This is made possible through the generosity of private donations, sponsorships and grants. We also work to educate the public about Dobermans and responsible, humane pet care, which includes spaying and neutering, training, and how to choose a pet to fit your particular lifestyle.
