My Precious Baby Girl.....My Heidi.....My Heidi Girl.....My Miss Heidi.....

During the summer of 2000 I went to a Hand Me Down Dobes event with the intention of choosing a Dobie. Since the event was 3 hours from my home here in WV, I managed to get there a bit early, and was asked if I would help get some of the dogs ready by helping to bathe them. I bathed two dogs, the last one being a 5 year old girl named Heidi. She had been rescued from a puppy mill, had been abused, and wasn’t in the best of condition. I remember thinking, “This poor girl will NOT get adopted at THIS event.” As the day progressed, and I looked at, walked, and played with the dogs available for adoption. I finally had narrowed my choice down to two; neither of them being Heidi...For some unremembered reason, I was asked to walk Heidi when I went to my truck to get the checkbook in order to pay fees, etc. for the dog I had finally chosen. Heidi jumped into the truck and wouldn’t get out. The choice was made, and Heidi made that choice...she chose ME!

Never was there a more gentle, affectionate, loving creature. My confidante, my constant companion, a clown, the terror of the neighborhood cats, my pillow at night, my pride and joy, the dog that helped countless people get over their fear of Dobermans and big dogs, the glutton who would find food no matter where it was hidden, who would do silly things just to make me laugh when I didn’t feel like laughing, who demanded affection, and gave her unconditional love left me on 15 August 2011 at the age of 16. She crossed the Rainbow Bridge while she was in my arms, after suffering from her second heart attack.

I give thanks and praise to God for bringing Heidi into my life, and allowing her to be by my side for so long.

I miss you, Baby Girl....and will always love you.
