Ice

On February 14, 2008 this beautiful, frail, blue eyed, pink eared, and pink nosed, white Doberman, Ice, gingerly walked into our lives and our hearts. Soon after he joined our family he was diagnosed with Addisons. With the excellent care he received Sunbury Vet Clinic family, Dr. Nowak and his girls, he soon began to put on weight, enjoy playing and most importantly he learned to trust and enjoy life. He thrived in his new environment and didn’t want to miss a thing. He enjoyed playing with his toys (rope toys were his favorite), running like the forever puppy he was, and sunning himself on the deck. When he wasn’t sleeping the “game was on” play was at the top of the list. You would never have known that he was so sick!

His morning ritual was to greet his dad and lay his head on his dad’s belly to have his head and neck scratched. Ice also made sure that you never did anything alone. Where you were - there was Ice, where you walked he followed and where you slept, yep…..right there near you too! He just wanted to be assured that you were close and that you loved him. He didn’t like being left behind. But when you returned he would greet you with his big, beautiful smile. Each day when I returned home from work, you guessed it….there was that huge, teethy, smile! Even visitors were greeted with his shy grin, and a dipped head, in anticipation that you were a welcomed guest.
Sadly, Ice moved onto this final “forever” home on the night of October 4, 2011. Dr. Nowak, Dan, and I were there with him as he took his final breath and all our hearts broke!! I hope that Ice knew how very much we loved him and miss him! And what a difference he made in our lives! He now rests, in his yard, by one of the pine trees he loved and watches over us quietly. As I think of Ice, and miss him tremendously, during this holiday season… I can’t help but be reminded how he has touched my life and what he taught me. Ice was the great example of how patience, love, and kindness, can change the lives of those around us….but also our own lives by being able to make a difference in just “one amazing life!”

To you, Ice, now my “White Angel”… watch over us from above. Until we meet again!

Merry Christmas,
