Katie

Katie was only with us a short time.....but what a great companion and friend she was! Katie was saved by an angel, HMDD Volunteer Karin Shulin who rescued her from a kill shelter only hours before she was to be killed. She arrived at our home that day to be fostered a complete mess.....skin and bones, muscles atrophied, and looking like she may not make it...barely enough energy to eat or drink. It took a little time, but she came back....began to eat, drink, get healthy, and show some personality. It wasn't long before she had meat on her bones (gained 15+ pounds), her coat back, and showed us who she really was....a beautifully loving dog who played with our other dogs, chased our kids and us around the yard and house. Katie was very protective of us and our kids....she wasn't a big fan of strange adult men (I am sure from her past abusers), but she would let someone new in the house once we told her it was ok. I never had to worry if I wasn't home, Katie was keeping an eye on everything and everyone! At Doberfest 2008 she made her big debut......Karin was so amazed at how well she looked!! The amazing thing is that with all of those Dobes running all over the dog park......Katie stayed with us....no leash....she was just happy walking with us and sitting beside us the whole day. Katie was all of ours, but she was my son Garrett's the most, she loved sleeping in bed with him every night....I remember when she first came home we got her to lay on a soft dog bed and she looked like she had never seen or felt anything so soft in her life! Sadly Katie developed heart problems and passed on Sunday 10/19/2008. We think of her everyday and we will continue to help the dogs of HMDD for her!
